“It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the number of overdrive pedals on the market today. Fortunately, though, designers have elevated overdrive pedal engineering to another level.” Yep, they’re talking about us! 😉
Guitar Tricks Insider hooked up TrueOverDrive 1 and 2 for a thorough test. They tested them individually, but also compared them closely – not only to each other, but also to the drive channel on a real tube amp!
“It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the number of overdrive pedals on the market today. Fortunately, though, designers have elevated overdrive pedal engineering to another level, designing pedals that no longer sound like the cheap, clanky tone destructors of yesterday. And at the top of the list for pedal makers, you’ll nd Danish effects builder, LunaStone.
It’s not just about the tone, but also about the feel and response of the pedal, and this is another area where the TrueOverDrive pedals stand apart from the pack. Roll off your guitar’s volume knob (you knew it has one, right?) and hear the sound clean up just like it would when playing through a good tube amp (and not how it would sound through lesser distortion pedals).”
We were also pleased to learn that Guitar Tricks Insider noticed the design in terms of the knob layout:
“Another cool thing about these pedals is the diagonal layout of the Volume, Tone, and Drive controls. The designers envisioned that this would enable you to make basic adjustments to your level and amount of overdrive with your foot, while you’re playing. It’s certainly not as precise as bending down and using your hands, but it truly works for on-the-fly adjustments during the gig.”
But of course what truly matters is the sound, and we’ll just sum up the conclusion here (follow the link to read the full review):
“It’s so authentic that we found ourselves doing multiple A/B tests comparing our amp’s clean channel plus TrueOverDrive vs. our amp’s crunch channel on its own. You’d be hard pressed to notice any significant difference.”
